The pandemic has made it increasingly harder for women to access abortions, however, new research suggests that lifting restriction around mifepristone—the medical abortion drug— can improve access to care, especially in rural communities.
The study, published in the Annals of Family Medicine, found that removing prescription and dispensing restrictions in Canada greatly improved access to abortion and reduced health care inequalities.
For the study the researchers from the University of British Columbia (UBC) worked closely with various health and regulatory agencies to help advance Canada's medical abortion policies and improve abortion access and equity within the country.
